Latest somethingdark news
Developing a website such as SDk and the magazine it hosts takes time. That's why we think contributors and others interested in what we are doing deserve to be kept informed on our progress. This page has been designed to do exactly that: to keep you up-to-date as to where we are. We're pleased to have you with us.

SomethingDark in Berlin: up and runningSDk Updates
Thurs 08 Sep, 2016.
After months of careful planning and curating, the SomethingDark in Berlin exhibition is on the walls of gallery space in the north-west Berlin district of Wedding. The exhibition marks the release of the third edition of SomethingDark webmagazine (SDk03); thus, the exhibition’s theme is based on the SDk03 theme of “the built environment and urban decay”, and much artwork and photography that featured in SDk03 is on the wall in the flesh, so to speak.
The opening event on Friday 2 September was also a special occasion to celebrate the relaunch of SomethingDark. This event began with a live online tour of SDk webmagazine during which our emphasis on uniqueness, quality and the total work of art were highlighted. English artist and writer Howard Litchfield, who together with his photographer–partner Pete Beck was responsible for creating SDk03’s iconic front-cover image, then gave a detailed account of his three-year Minotaur project. Howard’s presentation was in equal measure highly personal, an account of the bull-headed man in classical mythology, and an exposition of the minotaur in art history. After a short reading from SDk03, German photographer Ulli Richter followed with a presentation on the therapeutic effects of his gay-male fetish and BDSM photography; following on from one of his bodies of work contributed to SDk03's Photography section, Ulli’s classically proportioned architectural photography is part of the exhibition.
Coming up now for SomethingDark in Berlin is the two-day culture festival 2TageWedding this Saturday and Sunday, 10–11 September. The district of Wedding will be alive over the weekend with a large and diverse range of art and cultural events that will see many establishments opening their doors for extended hours; SomethingDark in Berlin at Ivooo will be open both days from 11:00 to 22:00. Ivooo is in the Afrikanisches Viertel (African quarter) of Wedding, at Togostrasse 6, 13351 Berlin-Wedding.
The pictures accompanying this SDk Updates item, all shot by photographer and SDk designer Chris Cook, tell the story of SomethingDark in Berlin, from setting up the exhibition to the opening at Ivooo: a full two days’ work last Thursday and Friday, 1–2 September [clicking on the image thumbnails will expand them in a lightbox].
If you’re in Berlin during the German capital’s spell of very warm, sunny weather, then we recommend taking a cool break by popping into Ivooo and spending forty-five minutes to chat with our host, Ivo Hofsté, while taking in all the artwork that’s on exhibit. The full Exhibition List is provided below as a PDF; you are invited to download it.
And, finally, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ivo for his enthusiasm from the beginning of this project.
